Ways to Stay Consistent in School

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

Do you feel you are reluctant to get your work done? Feeling restless whenever you are faced with your homework? Or too busy with school commitments such as having co-curricular activities and external enrichment programmes? Well… Do not worry! We have created a list of ways for you to implement in your study routines to help you slowly start being consistent in your studies!

Don't think, just do it!

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to just do it! Stop procrastinating on your work. You can be consistent in your studies by overcoming that ‘force’ that’s preventing you from starting your work. Whenever you do not wish to do your work, tell yourself to go to your table, and do 2 minutes of your work. After this ‘2 minutes’, you will feel the need to continue doing your work since you are already at it. And this can continue to motivate you to get your work done and slowly make it a habit. Eventually, you will achieve consistency in completing your tasks.

Write down your goals

Writing down your goals and placing them at a spot you often see is a good way to keep you consistent in your revisions. With a goal in mind, and being constantly reminded of them, you will feel motivated to study and slowly, reach your goal.

Do take note that you must set realistic goals. With goals that are unrealistic, and by the end of the year, you have yet to achieve them, this might demotivate you, making you more reluctant to study.

Make your study sessions fun

Who does not love doing things that are fun and enjoyable? Well… I definitely do! And studying isn’t one of them. However, you can change this fact! Studying can definitely be fun! You can listen to fun classical or non-lyrical music to help you study. Or turn studying into a game itself with rewards! Such as having snacks to reward yourself after you complete a chapter, and making it a challenge with your friends to complete as many questions as possible within a period of time. Such activities can help you to motivate both yourself and your friends to work hard together. Also, you can consistently get work done while having fun!

Reward yourself for small 'wins'

Rewarding yourself for every little achievement may motivate you to work hard and be consistent in your work. Our brains are wired to respond to rewards, so you can treat yourself to your favourite cup of bubble tea or get yourself a toy whenever you do well in your tests. Not only will you get to receive things you like, this actually is a good way to boost your confidence to do even better or achieve even larger goals in the long run!

Engage in self-evaluation

Having self-evaluation will help you understand where you stand and what needs to be improved. This can help you find out ways to get better, plan better and be more self-aware about your current progress, allowing you to stay consistent in your work and be on track.

Let us know if these tips help you to achieve consistency in your studies! Happy learning!
